Dense fog is reducing visibility and slowing traffic around the tristate region.

The National Weather Service says visibility is a quarter mile or less in some areas.

The speed limit on the New Jersey Turnpike has been reduced to 45 mph in both directions between the Delaware Memorial Bridge and the George Washington Bridge.

Forecasters expect the fog will lift by the middle of Wednesday morning.

Forecasters say a powerful storm developing in the Great Lakes region could send potentially damaging wind to New Jersey.

High wind watches and warnings are in effect for most of the state beginning Wednesday evening.

The National Weather Service says southerly winds of 20 to 30 mph could pack gusts of up to 60 mph.

Forecasters say the strongest winds are expected between 10 p.m. Wednesday and 4 a.m. Thursday.

The winds could down trees and power lines.
