One more thing, about the imminent sale of Hostess snack cakes.
If you hoarded the last of the company's Twinkies when the company went bankrupt, it's okay to start eating your stash now. Two private equity firms are close to a deal to buy the Twinkie brand for $400 million.
Were you one of the many in the mad rush to buy last December when the last Hostess shipment hit the stores? Feel stupid now? You should. There was no way the iconic Twinkie brand was going to disappear…or hostess cupcakes--also included in this new deal.
One of the investment companies taking over bought Pabst Blue Ribbon beer a few years ago. They obviously know the American palate well.
Forgotten in all the happy-talk on the news about the fate of the Twinkie is what happened to all those loyal bakery workers. On Monday, Hostess filed a motion to stop paying retirees benefits to its former employees. Too bad their shelf life wasn't as long as Twinkies.
