Frozen Apple: Deep freeze continues for NYC

NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

New Yorkers have been experiencing below freezing temperatures and tonight the low temps will cause any wet surfaces to freeze.

This is bad news for those who have to work outdoors.

In one word ...brrr! Here's more words for you -- layers, layers and more layers. The wind around the city really cuts through you. New York City hasn't been above the freezing mark for almost a week now!

Everyone was bundled up in Times Square on Saturday from head to toe.

"I think it's really cold. My mouth is so cold here."

Even the Joseph family from Boston could hardly believe the freezing temps.

The high on Saturday was only in the upper 20's – or -- 27 degrees, but the wind chill sure makes it feel even colder!

"It's pretty cold here. It's the wind that's really chilling us out," said Scott Joseph.

"You just dress as warmly, rough it out," added Danielle Joseph.

New York City hasn't been above the freezing mark since Monday. The good news is the city has been relatively murder free because of this freeze.

Police say that as of Saturday morning, the city has gone ten days without a reported homicide.

That's little consolation for Mark Gagliardi who has been standing out in the cold selling tickets all day.

"Since 9:00 a.m. this morning and it's just unbearable," said Gagliardi.

However some New Yorkers like Joe Harris actually prefer this weather.

"I'm just enjoying myself … just relaxing."

He loves to play when it's cold out and he hopes his music brings even the littlest of sunshine into an otherwise blustery day.

"I like to warm their hearts and put a smile on their face."

If the cold temperatures aren't bad enough you have to possibly worry about black ice Saturday night. That black ice can cause very slippery road out there, so if you have to driver -- make sure you drive very slowly and carefully.
