Parents want answers about daughter's coma

NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

Raina Ferraro, 19, was a cheerleader, student and Girl Scout. Now she is comatose with brain damage.

Giulio and Iris Ferraro say their daughter was getting a routine endoscopy done when she went into cardiac arrest. They say they were never told how or why it happened.

"I feel like I'm in a dream," Iris Ferraro says.  "And I'm trying to wake up."

Raina Ferraro was brought to Phelps Memorial Hospital Center January 10. Her father said she had stomach pain and wanted to get it checked out. He said she was healthy, no prior health issues.

Her parents are demanding to know what happened. They've hired attorneys Sanford Rubenstein and Ira Newman.

We asked Phelps Hospital in Sleepy Hollow, N.Y., for an on-camera interview or statement. A spokesperson declined to comment, saying it would be in violation of health privacy laws.

Raina is now being cared for at the Maria Fareri Children's Hospital at Westchester Medical Center.

For now her parents are getting through the ordeal with the help of pictures of what used to be and by remembering talking with her for the final time before her endoscopy.
