NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

A man abducted and assaulted a 10-year-old girl in Brooklyn Thursday morning, police said.

The attacker, a stranger, grabbed the girl as she was leaving home in Canarsie at about 8:30 a.m., police said. He then forced the girl to the rooftop, hit her on the head, but then ran away, the NYPD said.

The girl was able to go inside the building and call for help, police said.

Medics took her to Kings County Hospital in stable condition, according to police and emergency medical services.

The NYPD activated what is called a level one mobilization, which means the borough's patrol task force, in addition to regular units, is searching for the suspect.
