DETROIT (WJBK) -- "When I pulled up, I noticed that my lights in my property were on and I didn't leave my lights on," said Kenny Shannon.
He instantly knew something was wrong. Somebody had been inside his Detroit home on St. Marys Street. As he walked closer to the door, he noticed something else.
"I didn't hear my dog barking and he always barks, so I immediately knew that they had took him."
Shannon was right. The thieves got away with his most cherished possession -- his eight-year-old Yorkshire Terrier named Max. He has cared for the two and a half pound, big eyed, brown, black and now gray dog since he was a pup.
It's not like the house wasn't secure. Not only did he have an alarm system, Shannon had double bars on the windows. Somehow they managed to pull the outside ones off with some force, but the ones on the inside they actually kicked in. There was glass everywhere.
The crooks stole Shannon's fur coat, Playstation 3, two plasma televisions and swiped the Louis Vuitton dog carrier and managed somehow to get it all through the back window with no one noticing.
"They were in my house a long time," said Shannon. "They went all the way upstairs, all the way in the basement. They even went through my bar and picked the liquor that they wanted to take out of all of it. I'm just like who does that."
The bandits did leave a couple of things behind. Shannon said Detroit Police evidence techs were able to lift two fingerprints off the flat screen the thieves tried to pry off the wall.
"People out here working hard to get things and you've got people breaking in and just have total disregard for people's work ethic and the fact that they get up and go to work everyday," Shannon remarked.
But nothing makes him more upset than knowing his dog, who he considers a part of his family, is gone. He's heartbroken.
"All the stuff they took they can have. I don't care about that. All I really want is my dog back," said Shannon. "Whatever you were going to sell it for, I'll buy it back because that dog means more to me than it will mean to anybody else that you could sell it to."
