Man shot during party on 22nd floor of Palmer House Hilton

CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -
Gunfire erupted at a party on the 22nd floor of the Palmer House Hilton Hotel in the Loop early Sunday, leaving one man wounded.
The man, 25, was attending a party in the hotel, at 17 E. Monroe St., when someone took out a gun and fired shots, police News Affairs Officer Hector Alfaro said.
He was shot in the right leg and taken in good condition to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, Alfaro said.
No one else was hurt, though police could not immediately say why the shooting began.
Thomas Coon, 42, of St. Joseph, Mich., was staying on the 22nd floor while he was in town celebrating his father's 70th birthday but said he heard nothing.
"I think it's a one-off deal," Coon said. "Troublemakers can stay where they want. I've stayed at the Palmer House many times and never had any problems."
Mary Berger of White Bear Lake, Minn., was in Chicago with her daughter, checking out colleges and staying at the Palmer House.
"We were luckily unaware of the whole thing," she said. "We were watching a movie and we had the volume up kind of loud."
A manager at the hotel could not be reached for comment.
