New Staten Island ferry plans released

New Staten Island ferry plans released

Posted: Updated:
NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

Plans to redesign the Staten Island Ferry do not include outdoor seating, a favorite for many passengers wanting an extra-close look at the water, skyline and Statue of Liberty.

The engineering firm behind the new design for the large orange vessels tells the NY Daily News that the plans are in the early stages.

The new ferry is expected to be completed by 2018.

The plan to change the look of the boat which takes passengers between lower Manhattan and Staten Island isn't sitting well with many commuters.

Some say looking at the Lady Liberty from inside the cabin simply isn't the same.

"It's one of the most breathtaking views New York has to offer."

The final plans have yet to be released.
