GUYTON, Ga. (AP) - An early morning fire has destroyed a wood frame home in Effingham County and displaced a family of 4.
A Red Cross Disaster Action Team was on the scene early Sunday morning to help the father, mother and two children, 9 and 4, who resided at the home. The family's two dogs were killed in the fire.
Red Cross volunteers told the Savannah Morning News that the father said 1 of the dogs woke him and his wife around 3 a.m. The father said he and his wife broke out a window and jumped out. Volunteers said the children spent the night at a relative's house and have not been told about the fire.
The cause of the fire has not yet been determined by fire officials.
