NORTHVILLE, Mich. (WJBK) -- Police believe the same man is responsible for robbing and attacking two women in separate Oakland County communities on Wednesday.

Suzie Johnson, Senior and Adult Enrichment Coordinator at the Northville Community Center, is issuing a warning to her members after a 69-year-old woman was robbed and attacked in her own driveway on Lake St.

Police say she spent Wednesday morning at the center and there's a chance she may have been followed home. "This is very disconcerting," said Johnson.

The victim says after parking her car in the garage she was approached by a black male in his 30s wearing a three-quarter length brown coat who wanted her to take part in a survey. Police say the victim noticed the man didn't have any identification and when she asked for it, she was attacked. It was the last thing she remembered.

Police say she suffered a broken jaw and a severe head injury and when she woke up in her driveway, her purse and cell phone were gone.

Later on Wednesday, a similar attack took place in Farmington Hills at the Village Green condominiums on Eight Mile Road near Grand River Avenue. Police say a 42-year-old woman was approached by a man with a similar description. He struck her in the head with a club-type weapon and fled.

Police believe the cases are connected. "(The suspect) is looking for females, alone and isolated. The best advice I can give is if you're a female and you're driving alone, make sure nobody's following you," said Northville Police Chief Gary Goss. "Be aware of your surroundings."

Police say the suspect may be driving a light tan Ford Taurus.

Anyone with information is asked to called Northville or Farmington Hills police.
