Christie won't take matching money in primary

Posted: Updated:

WESTFIELD, N.J. (AP) - Gov. Chris Christie's re-election campaign says it will not take public matching money for the June Republican primary.

Christie's campaign announced on Tuesday it's raising money well enough that it does not need the extra cash.

In the fourth quarter of 2012, Christie raised more than $2 million.

No well-known Republicans have announced plans to challenge Christie in the primary.

State Sen. Barbara Buono is the only prominent Democrat in the race. She raised about $250,000 by Dec. 31 and does plan to seek matching funds.
