Holmes-Norton draws Inauguration tickets for DC residents

Posted: Updated:
WASHINGTON, DC -

Residents who live in the home of the federal government will only get 200 official tickets for the Presidential Inauguration next week. Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton had so many requests for the tickets she had to hold a lottery.

On Monday, two members of the DC National Guard pulled numbers from a basket filled with 4,000 numbers representing those who have asked for tickets. Norton's office plans to notify those whose numbers were chosen.

Norton says each member of Congress gets 200 tickets to distribute to constituents. Because DC is not a state and has only one delegate to Congress, the District in only gets the smallest number of tickets.

Norton has asked her colleagues in the House and Senate from other areas across the country to donate any extra tickets to District residents. She's also concerned about those who may try to sell their tickets online or who decide to stay home if the weather is bad.
