A House of Representatives panel is set to meet on the Superstorm Sandy relief bill Monday night.

A showdown over more than $50 billion in Sandy aid is expected to arrive on Capitol Hill shortly. Lawmakers are expected to take up the measure in two parts – A $17 billion aid bill to cover immediate costs to repair destroyed roads and infrastructure.

The second is a $33 million amendment that includes funding for preventative measures to keep areas safe from future storms.

However, conservatives and watchdog groups have started lobbying against the Senate package, saying it includes too much money for past disasters and other projects not related to Sandy.

The House Rules Committee will meet at 5:00 p.m. Monday.
