NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -
Two schools will close this summer and 15 others will reportedly be phased out due to poor performance, said NYC education officials.
More schools will be added to the list, according to the NY Times.
The closings are part of the city's ongoing education reforms.
The schools closing have 16,000 seats and would be replaced by other schools. Schools being phased out will remain open for their students but will not admit other children, reported the Times.
A fierce battle against closing the schools from the United Federation of Teachers is likely.
