Bus union holds rally at City Hall

NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

Labor officials and the Amalgamated Transit Union Local 1181 held a rally at City Hall Sunday protest the Mayor Michael Bloomberg's plan to eliminate employee protections in school bus contracts.

Union president Michael Cordiello and representatives of school parent groups criticized the removal of "employee protection" and seniority provisions from planned contracts to operate school buses, recently sent out for bidding by the Bloomberg administration.

The protesters, which featured parents groups and members of ATU Local 1181, say the EPP (employment protection provision) is directly linked to the safety and security of city school children, both general education and special education kids, by ensuring that the city's most qualified, professional and experienced school bus crews are the behind the wheel transporting our children safely to and from school.
