House To Vote On $9.7-Billion Sandy Relief Bill

PHILADELPHIA -

After months of trying to get their lives back on track, Superstorm Sandy victims could soon get some relief.

The U.S. House of Representatives will vote Friday on a $9.7-billion bill to replenish the National Flood Insurance Program.

House Speaker John Boehner was publicly criticized the night of the "fiscal cliff" deal because Congress adjourned without ever holding a vote for Sandy relief aid.

If the House approves it, the Senate will also hold a vote later on Friday.

However, the $9.7 billion is one-third of what the House was expected to vote on earlier this week, which was half of the $60 billion the Senate had already approved. And that amount was already below the amount Govs. Chris Christie and Andrew Cuomo had asked for.

The House won't vote on the balance of the aid request until Jan. 15.

FOX 29's Steve Keeley was live in our newsroom Friday morning with more details.

The vote on a relief package is good news for people who lost their homes in the storm. Many are still living in hotels, months after the storm.

FOX 29's Chris O'Connell went to Wildwood on Thursday night to talk with some of them and filed this video report.
