Suspected bomb threats made at Cobb, Cherokee Co. courthouses

Posted: Updated:
COBB COUNTY, Ga. -

Authorities say the courthouses in Cobb County and Cherokee County received a suspected bomb threat on Wednesday.

According to authorities, the threat was made to the courthouses at around 10:14 a.m., and the caller stated the devices were buried outside both courthouses.

Marietta police say Haynes Street and Waddell Street were closed while authorities investigated the threat at the courthouse. After a search of the area near the courthouse by Marietta police and fire crews, no device was located. A K-9 was brought in as a precaution to conduct another search, and found no device. The courthouse was deemed safe at noon.

Lt. Jay Baker with the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office says a perimeter was set up around the courthouse, and K-9s were called in to conduct a search. After nothing was found, operations resumed at the courthouse. He says the courthouse was not evacuated.

Baker says foreclosures sales at the courthouse were briefly disrupted, and it's not uncommon for bomb threats to be called in during auction day.
