NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -
After Monday night's big New Year's Eve bash, things are getting back to normal at the crossroads of the world.
Less than 24 hours ago about a million people celebrated the arrival of the New Year.
As anyone could imagine, it's not easy cleaning up after a party that size. About a million people celebrated the start of the New Year or near Times Square early this morning.
But there was no time for celebration for a small army of Department of Sanitation workers who had to start picking up debris from the world's biggest party.
You think it's a chore cleaning up after one of your house parties?
It's nothing compared to this.
"Over a 48-hour span we have a total of 151 sanitation workers, 24 supervisors, 2 superintendents and 2 deputy chiefs – including myself from last year," said Jeff Pitts, Deputy Chief of the Dept. of Sanitation.
Confetti is just the tip of that 50-ton iceberg of garbage.
"There's a lot of stuff that I can't even mention, but it's a lot. Pizza boxes, bottles, cans you name it. Anything that you could put in your pocket," said Pitts.
The cleanup effort continues in Times Square. There's still a bit of confetti on the ground. But from the looks of it, these workers have already done a great job.
