Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Corbett says he will sue the NCAA over sanctions levied on Penn State University.
The NCAA fined the school $60 million following the Jerry Sandusky child sex abuse scandal.
The fine is to be distributed to child abuse prevention programs across the country. However, state and federal lawmakers are unhappy with the money being spent out of the state.
Corbett will hold a news conference at Penn State on Wednesday to announce details of the federal lawsuit.
It's not clear if the suit would aim to get rid of or reduce the amount of the historic $60-million worth of fines levied against the university, in addition to other sanctions and recommendations.
But some Pennsylvania politicians have been pledging to challenge the NCAA on use of those funds – to be used for child abuse prevention – outside of the state.
At the time the sanctions were announced in July, Corbett said in his statement that he would seek "assurance from Penn State that no taxpayer dollars will be used to pay the $60 million fine imposed on the university today."
Some legislators have gone a step farther, calling on the NCAA to use the funds within Pennsylvania's borders.
A resolution introduced in the state House noted that Pennsylvania has 67 counties but only 21 children's advocacy centers – none of them in Centre County, where Penn State's main campus is located – and they're currently without a dedicated funding stream.
The potential lawsuit was first reported Tuesday according to sources by Sports Illustrated.
A spokesman for Corbett's office told the magazine they were not prepared to say anything earlier Tuesday.
