A number of new laws are set to take effect across the country at the stroke of midnight.
Many of the news laws address very serious issues while others are somewhat peculiar.
Gay couples in Maryland will be able to tie the knot legally. Maryland will be one of nine states and the District of Columbia to make gay marriage legal.
In two more states, California and Illinois, workers can say no to bosses who demand access to their social media accounts such as Facebook and Twitter.
Thousands of people will ring in the new year with more money in their paychecks, as 10 states across the country will raise the minimum wage in 2013.
Another new law goes into effect in Kentucky that will make it illegal for residents to release feral or wild hogs back into the wild.
