Burglars made off with $75,000 worth of weapons after hitting a metro Atlanta gun store hours after a shipment came in.
David Duncan said the thieves broke into the front door of his Dacula store early Saturday and stole dozens of handguns and rifles. He believes four or five people were involved.
"I feel like they'd been in the store. They knew what they were coming after," Duncan said.
Duncan said around 25 guns came in the shipment on Friday and were immediately placed on display because the store's inventory was running low after the Connecticut shooting and holiday shopping.
Duncan the burglars took the time to open the display cases and take the guns out. He said that the store does have a surveillance system, but there was apparently an issue when they installed it that prevented the incident being recorded on the store's DVR. Duncan said that they are working to retrieve the footage from an off-site monitor.
"There's no telling where the guns will end up, but they're stolen guns now so naturally they're going to end up in the wrong hands. That's just natural right there. I hope no one gets hurt with them," said Duncan.
Duncan is providing the serial numbers for all the stolen weapons to the ATF. As of Monday morning, he had confirmed some 45 weapons were stolen but believes about 65 are unaccounted for.
