Make The Decision To Donate Unwanted Gifts

Before you return that unwanted gift for a refund or an exchange, have you ever thought about donating it?

Donating your gifts has become easy to do and could help you with tax time rolling around.

Financial expert Dan Roccato stopped by "Good Day" on Thursday morning with what you need to know before you decide to donate.

He answered such questions as what gifts you can donate and whether you can donate a gift card balance.

He said make sure you get a receipt, and know that many charities will not accept used items.

Do your homework on where money goes, such as how much is used on administrative costs, and ask about the charity's privacy policy.

One place Roccato said to check on your favorite charities and where the funding goes is CharityNavigator.com.

    Thursday weather looks damp and stormy.  It will be mild and muggy to start with spotty showers early followed by afternoon and evening storms.  Highs in the upper 70s with winds out of the SW 5-10 mph. Some of the storms will produce locally heavy rain and gusty winds.

    This system is from the same cold front that caused the midwest tornadoes. It will also usher in cooler air for the holiday weekend.
