Girl reunited with stolen dog

NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

A little girl received a Christmas gift when she was reunited with her dog after he was stolen off a Washington Heights street Monday afternoon.

Seven-year-old Mia Bendrat was reunited with her Ruby Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, named Marley, who was taken outside a food store on Broadway at 176th Street.

Mia's mother, Angie Estrada, and her boyfriend had tied Marley to a post outside of La Rosa Fine Foods before they went inside.

Police say that Brad Bacon, 29, walked by and took the dog right off the post.  It was captured by a surveillance camera. The camera showed the suspect taking Marley's leash and picking up the dog as the pooch cowered and tried to backpedal away.

Later that day, Tina Cohen saw a man offering a dog for sale near Union Square and thought the situation seemed strange. Cohen bought Marley for $220 and took him to a vet.

The microchip imbedded inside Marley helped police contact Marley's owners.

Bacon was charged with grand larceny.
