NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

Police on Long Island are investigating a brutal attack and robbery of a man in the early morning hours on Sunday.

Nassau County Police say it happened about 12:45 a.m. in New Cassel.

The 19-year-old victim was riding his bicycle on Garden St. when he was approached by eight to ten youth.

Police say one of the thugs hit the victim in the face with a baseball bat, knocking him off of the bike.

Another member of the gang took the cash out of the victim's wallet as his partners continued to punch the man in the face.  They then took his bike and ran off.

The victim was taken to the hospital with lacerations to his face and a fractured nose.

Police say the attackers were black males between 16 and 20 years old.  They had no further description.

Detectives request anyone with information regarding this crime to contact Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS. They say that all callers will remain anonymous.
