The Pinal County Sheriff's Office says they have arrested a man who refused to stop when suspected of being drunk.
About 2:30 a.m. on Sunday, a traffic sergeant attempted to stop a vehicle in the area of Maricopa Road and West Smith. The driver apparently committed several traffic violations consistent with an impaired driver.
The driver failed to stop and a short pursuit ensued through a residential neighborhood. He eventually stopped in his own driveway.
The sergeant commanded the driver, later identified as Rogelio Rubio, 31, to exit the vehicle. He refused and the sergeant eventually had to break out the driver's side window, PCSO said.
Rubio allegedly continued to resist arrest and behave uncooperatively. The sergeant eventually got him under control and he was booked into the detention center for aggravated assault on a peace officer, resisting arrest, and failure to yield.
Further charges of DUI against Rubio are pending, following the results of a blood test.
The sergeant suffered stitches to his hand and Rubio received minor injuries due to the scuffle.
