FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (AP) - Snowmaking equipment is in place at a northern Arizona ski resort, and officials are ready to turn it on this year if needed.

The owners of the Arizona Snowbowl say having the equipment and a pipeline in place to carry treated wastewater to the resort means they'll no longer be at the mercy of the weather.

The plan is to make snow ahead of the Christmas holiday if winter storms don't deliver enough snow for the resort to open by then.

Local American Indian tribes have been against the plan ever since it was submitted more than a decade ago. They unsuccessfully argued in court that it would violate their religious rights and that snow made with reclaimed wastewater will make people sick.
