Governor Jan Brewer recognized Senate Bill 1163 at Peoria City Hall Wednesday.
Brewer signed the bill nicknamed "Joey's Law" earlier this year, making tougher penalties for drivers who leave the scene of a deadly accident.
The bill's name honors high school student Joey Romero, who died in the hospital after a hit and run back in 2010.
"This legislation named in Joey's honor is a tribute and a pledge to every Arizona family that has lost a loved one to a hit and run driver."
Joey's father and representatives from Mothers Against Drunk Driving were also a part of the ceremony.
