19-year-old charged for opening fire near Chicago police station

CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -
A 19-year-old man faces three felony charges after he allegedly fired shots near the Chicago Police Department's headquarters on the South Side Monday afternoon.
Demarquez Nelson, of the 1500 block of South Keeler Avenue, was charged with aggravated discharge of a firearm at a vehicle, aggravated assault to a police officer and unlawful use of a weapon, according to a statement issued early Wednesday by police News Affairs.
On-duty police officers allegedly saw Nelson open fire at a vehicle in the 3400 block of South Indiana Avenue about 12:50 p.m. on Monday, police said.
The officers tried arresting Nelson, police claim, and a foot chase ensued. At one point, police officers fired shots at Nelson, but no one was injured, police said. He was apprehended after the foot chase.
Nelson is scheduled to appear in bond court on Wednesday.
