Police ID Teen Killed In Crash, 4 Who Were Injured

NORTHAMPTON TOWNSHIP, Pa. -
Grief
counselors are at two Council Rock high schools Monday to help students cope with the loss of one of their friends.
A devastating car crash over the weekend left one teen dead and sent four others to local hospitals with serious injuries.
Northampton Township police say the accident happened at 1:50 p.m. Saturday on the 1500 block of Old Jacksonville Road in the Ivyland section of the township.
The car, a Monte Carlo SS was carrying five teens when it apparently left the road and slammed into a pole. The vehicle was sheared in half and came to a rest in a tree. The driver and three passengers were to St. Mary Medical Center in Middletown. Some of those injured are students in the Council Rock School District.
On Sunday, Bucks County Coroner Dr. Joseph Campbell identified 19-year old Cameron Smithwick as the passenger that died as a result of the crash.
The others passengers are identified as Monroe Leonard Tanner IV, 18, Louis Piotti, 17, Matthew Slade, 18, and Daniel Harris, 17.
Council Rock School Superintendent Mark Klein announced that counselors would be made available to students at CR North and South high schools.
"Our thoughts and prayers go out to the families of all the students involved in this tragedy," a statement from the superintendent read.
Officer Joseph Rosowski, an accident reconstruction expert, is investigating the crash. Anyone who witnessed the crash should contact Rosowski at 215-322-6111.
