Search for gun, possible new suspect week after Cold Spring cop killing

Posted: Updated:
MINNEAPOLIS (KMSP) -

A week after the murder of Cold Spring police officer authorities continue to look for the murder weapon and possibly, a new suspect.

As FOX 9 News first reported, Minneapolis police, accompanied by agents from the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, raided a home in south Minneapolis Wednesday night looking for evidence connected to the murder of Officer Tom Decker.

The search warrant was for narcotics, but sources tell FOX 9, agents were looking for information on a possible suspect whose drivers' license lists that address. People who live at the south Minneapolis home confirm police were asking about the suspect, but say he no longer lives at that address.

FOX 9 is not identifying the 40-year-old suspect, who has a violent criminal history. Court and police documents indicate he has lived in Cold Spring and was known to frequent an apartment complex three blocks from where Officer Decker was killed. The BCA will not confirm whether the individual is a suspect.

The only suspect who has been named is 34-year-old Ryan Larson, who lives above Winners Bar where Officer Decker was killed. Larson was arrested in his apartment approximately an hour after the murder. He was released from the Stearns County Jail on Tuesday because there was insufficient evidence to charge him with a crime.

In phone conversations with FOX 9 reporter Tom Lyden, Larson claims he's innocent and was sleeping at the time of the killing.
