Bee swarm attacks man in Phoenix

PHOENIX -

Firefighters helped get a man out of harm's way after he was attacked by bees.

Crews received several calls about an aggressive swarm Thursday in the area of 17th Avenue and Hatcher Road.

Authorities say a man suffered about 50 stings -- even in his ears and on his head.  They moved about a half-block away and began to treat him.  Crews then sprayed down the bees.

"What we like to tell people is if you start seeing bees and they become more frequent..move in go in an opposite direction because you're going to have to leave their area where they're at because they're not going to leave the area," said Capt. Jonathan Jacobs of the Phoenix Fire Department.

Firefighters say most of the hive was underneath an elderly woman's home.  She wasn't hurt.

A beekeeper was called to the scene to remove the hive.
