Christie Visits Washington To Seek Sandy Cleanup Funds

Posted: Updated:

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie made a trip to Washington on Thursday to discuss federal aid for the recovery after Superstorm Sandy.

Christie was meeting with the president and other administration officials.

The governor declined to discuss the meeting, and White House spokesman Jay Carney also said he couldn't provide details.

Residents on the East Coast are still in recovery mode more than a month after the storm.

Christie is pressing the White House for federal assistance to speed up the recovery process.

The White House has confirmed that a federal aid package is in the works. Obama is expecting to ask Congress for about $50 billion in additional emergency funds for the states heavily affected by the superstorm.

Christie was criticized widely by fellow Republicans for praising the president and the federal government's response to Sandy one week before Election Day.
