PRESCOTT VALLEY, Ariz. -

Police say a 31-year-old man was arrested after getting in a fight and trying to bite officers and hospital staff early Wednesday morning.

James Michael Whalen was arrested for getting in a fight in the 8100 block of E. Yavapai Rd.

According to officers, Whalen was growling, kicking and trying to bite them. His behavior got so bad that officers called for medical help because they weren't sure how drunk he was.

Walen continued to be combative at a hospital and police say he threatened them and the hospital's staff who were trying to help.

Hospital staff tried to put Whalen in protective restraints and in the process, he bit a male hospital worker on the wrist.

After his release from the hospital, Whalen was taken to a jail and charged with one count of aggravated assault and one count of resisting arrest.

Police don't know if Whalen was under the influence of illegal drugs at the time.
