"The parents need to reassure that their children are safe when they go to school but the problem is that carbon monoxide detectors at this point aren't required in the schools, so the parents aren't going to feel safe themselves and they're not going to help their children to feel safe until carbon monoxide detectors are installed in the schools," said Dr. Andrew Gothard of Atlanta Psychological Services.
Gothard added that some long-term effects of exposure to carbon monoxide are anger, depression and anxiety. He says it depended on the amount of exposure to carbon monoxide.
