Chicago Bears' linebacker Brian Urlacher will be out for three weeks
and possibly the remainder of the season from a hamstring injury
incurred from Sunday's game against Seattle, he told FOX 32 News.
As far as recovery, "doctors say two to four weeks, three, could be four. Just depends on how it heals," Urlacher says.
The team announced Tuesday that they have re-signed linebacker Dom DeCicco to a two-year contract in his place.
Brian Urlacher has been the face of the Bears' organization. He could miss the rest of the regular season and since this is the final year of his contract, he may have played his last game with the Bears.
"I do not think that's going to happen," Urlacher told FOX 32 News. "But, if it does, I have had a really good and long career so I would be sad, but I would not be crushed."
Urlacher says that this hamstring injury isn't as bad as the one that cost him seven games back in 2004.
"I did that on the first day of training camp and that MRI showed more damaged back then than it did this time," he recalls.
For now, fans will just have to wait and see.
The Bears had already lost guard Lance Louis to a season-ending knee injury in the previous game and ruled out Devin Hester (concussion) and guard Chris Spencer (knee) during the week. They lost a few more players in a 23-17 loss to Seattle.
Safety Chris Conte (illness) and receiver Earl Bennett (concussion) left the game, and cornerback Tim Jennings (shoulder) was injured on the final drive.
Heading into his third season, Chicago Bears nose tackle Stephen Paea is ready to compete for the starting spot. But handling his family's off-season acquisition – triplets! – may be a bigger challenge.
