WASHINGTON, DC -

They held a candlelight vigil in front of the Cuban Interests Section on 16th Street in Northwest DC. They sang freedom songs. Supporters of a Bethesda man, who has been in prison in Cuba for three years on Monday, says it's been three years too long.

Alan Gross was arrested and accused of being a spy in December of 2009. Supporters say he was distributing cell phones and laptops to the Jewish Community to try to connect them to the internet. He had made 5 trips to Cuba, working for Bethesda-based Development Alternatives, Inc. His wife says he has cancer and has lost 100 pounds.

Judy Gross has filed a federal lawsuit against DAI and the US government, alleging they did not advise, train and protect her husband. She's asking for $60 million compensation. She and other supporters are asking the Obama administration to send a high-level envoy to Havana to negotiate her husband's release. Maryland Congressman Chris Van Hollen says the White House has been working to try to secure his freedom. He says both sides need to step up the effort to bring Alan Gross home.
