PAULSBORO, N.J. -
Lt. Cmdr. Tracy Wirth tells "Good Day" in this video clip about the U.S. Coast Guard's response to the train derailment and bridge collapse in Paulsboro, N.J.
Wirth says the Coast Guard is "100 percent concerned for the safety of the public and the environment."
It was approximately 7:15 a.m. when the Coast Guard got a report that five train cars had derailed at the bridge over Mantua Creek.
During the phone interview about two hours later, she said no injuries or fatalities were reported in the derailment.
"What we have done so far is we're standing up an incident management team to help respond to this and manage this response. We are getting more resources in from our Atlantic strike team and public information assist team."
Wirth added, "We have a half-a-mile area evacuated around the bridge. The creek is currently closed, and a safety zone is in effect one mile around the incident."
She added that they're working to limit flight restrictions from nearby airports.
Wirth said they were still looking into how much was leaking and what's out there.
"But the concern, of course, is the product in the air is a flammable gas," she said.
