A Grant Park pet supply store could be in danger of closing its doors after thieves stole thousands of dollars in specialty pet food from their warehouse.
Customers tell us Intown Healthy Hound and City Kitty in is the only place they can buy the specialty dog and cat food carried here. But now, there is a shortage of it. Store owner Bridget Galloway told FOX 5 thieves took about 20,000 pounds worth of food from the warehouse Wednesday night.
Galloway showed us the warehouse at an undisclosed location where someone stole about 1,000 bags and several hundred cans of the pet food. She says they broke in through a window and climbed in, then used the emergency release to open the door.
According to Galloway, it would have been a lot of effort and taken a lot of time. She says the thieves even used her fork lift and other equipment to do it.
Customers picked up the remaining bags of specialty pet food on Thursday, unsure when the next supply will arrive or even if the store will stay open. Galloway tells me the $35,000 is coming out of her pocket since the stolen pet food was uninsured. She says she's trying to figure out what she can do to stay open.
Atlanta police are asking for anyone with information about the pet food burglary to give them a call. They were unable to find any eyewitnesses since the warehouse is in an industrial area, and it did not have a video surveillance system.
