Brawl at Mount Vernon High School

MYFOXNY.COM -

Law enforcement sources said violence erupted at Mount Vernon High School around noon Thursday, and cops from at least four different departments had to get it all under control.

Mohammed Boota, a junior, said the brawl started as a simple food fight, then teachers got involved and were actually in the fight trying to break it up. He said the teachers got hurt trying to break it up and then security got involved.

Sources said that officials were so concerned the fighting would continue outside the school, they put it on lockdown and did a staggered dismissal of about 15 students at a time with police watching their every move.

We tried to speak with school officials but were turned away.

Mount Vernon police confirmed the incident but would not give us more details.

There appear to be no serious injuries, but one teacher may have been slightly hurt trying to break up a fight.
