Sen. Schumer stays neutral in Knicks-Nets rivalry

Posted: Updated:
WASHINGTON (AP) -

Sen. Charles Schumer is a Brooklyn-born fan of the New York Knicks basketball team. But he's also a politician.

For now, Schumer says he hasn't chosen sides in the new NBA rivalry between the Knicks and the Brooklyn Nets.

But the Democrat says he has a plan. He says he'll attend the next Knicks-Nets game and "let my heart be my guide."

Schumer spoke the morning after the Nets defeated the Knicks 96-89 in overtime in the Barclays Center. It was the teams' first meeting since the Nets moved to Brooklyn this season from New Jersey.

Schumer said he'd originally planned to attend on Nov. 1. That game was postponed because of Superstorm Sandy, and Schumer said he could not make Monday's game.
