Professor Albrecht ClassenTUCSON, Ariz. (AP) - A University of Arizona professor of German studies is being honored as the state's professor of the year.
The Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching has bestowed that designation on Professor Albrecht Classen. It cites his proficiency in the classroom and positive relationships with students.
The 56-year-old Classen says he was stunned when he received the foundation's letter, thinking it was nothing more than a polite notice saying he hadn't won.
He'd been nominated several times previously but hadn't won.
The Arizona Daily Star (http://bit.ly/SophiS ) reports that the annual honor often has gone to the university's chief rival, Arizona State University.
