CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

Two men were shot, one fatally, on the Near West Side Sunday morning.

The drive-by shooting happened about 8:04 a.m. in the 2300 block of West Lake Street, according to police News Affairs Officer Laura Kubiak.

Neighbors said that they heard multiple gunshots, then went outside to find the two men in a car on Lake Street.

The driver's side window of the Nissan was shot out and the car, which had Missouri license plates, was facing east in the westbound lane of Lake Street as of about 10:55 a.m. Police had closed the street to traffic and crime scene tape was keeping both eastbound and westbound traffic from the area as of about 10:55 a.m.

The neighbors said the driver of the car appeared to be the more seriously injured of the two. Both men appeared to be in their late teens to early 20s, according to those who saw them in the car.

Both men were taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County, where one of them died, Kubiak said.
