Does Black Friday shopping really bring the best deals? Tens of thousands of shoppers think so, but experts say not so fast.
College student Shelby Garcia said she was planning on going through Thursday's sales papers to find the biggest bargains.
Garcia will have lots of ads to sift through. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution said the paper would weigh in at more than 4. pounds, with more than 82 advertising inserts.
"Oh my gosh, that's so exciting. I can't wait to get ahold of that," Garcia said.
While many shoppers said they felt the top discounts would be on Black Friday, consumer expert Sheldon Zimmerman said the best deals actually come a few weeks later.
"Having spent a number of years in retail as chief financial officer, it's true that sales tend to peak closer to Christmas. However, the kickoff is Thanksgiving," Zimmerman said.
Experts said the best deals are usually Dec. 15 – 24th. They said toys usually get cheaper closer to Christmas.
Glory Nix, a college student, said it's all about the experience of the crazed post-Thanksgiving shopping.
At a Best Buy in Buckhead, eight shoppers were in line on Wednesday in hopes of getting a 40-inch flat screen TV for $179 on Black Friday.
