PERRY TWP., Pa. -
An animal-rights group says its remote-controlled drone and video camera were shot down while filming footage of what it calls a "cruel live pigeon shoot" on Sunday.
But, the group says it did obtain video footage that it is reviewing, and it has released images of the damaged equipment.
SHowing Animals Respect and Kindness (or SHARK, for short) says it will be presenting its evidence to state police.
The incident unfolded around 3 p.m. Sunday at the Wing Pointe Gun Club on Moselem Springs Road in Perry Township, Berks County.
That's when SHARK says a rifle shot rang out and the video feed from its remote-controlled helicopter drone, dubbed "Angel," cut out.
The pilot, however, was able to regain control of the drone and bring it in for a landing, the group says.
The drone was smoking, its camera was destroyed, and the bullet apparently tore through the battery, resulting in total damage estimated at $4,000, according to SHARK.
Photos of that damage were released Monday, and SHARK says it also recorded video of all of the shooting club's members coming and going. The group alleges that rifles aren't actually allowed on the club's property.
FOX 29 News reached out to the club for comment Monday morning but did not immediately hear back.
State police say they're investigating the incident as criminal mischief. Anyone with information is asked to call the Hamburg barracks at (610) 562-6885.
