4 teen suspects in custody on suspicion of armed carjacking

PHOENIX -

Four teenage suspects are in custody for allegedly carjacking a couple at gunpoint in the west valley early Friday morning.

A man and a woman were driving home when they noticed a car following them. The couple parked across the street from their home near 83rd Avenue and McDowell and watched as the suspects drove past them.

Police say the suspects doubled back and one suspect approached the couple's car armed with a shotgun and ordered them out of their car.

The suspect continued to point a shotgun at the man as they got into the car. As the suspect started backing up, the man got a handgun and fired multiple rounds at the car.

About two hours later, a Phoenix police officer saw the stolen vehicle while on patrol. Officers followed the suspects into a neighborhood near Buckeye Road and 25th Avenue where the four suspects ran out of the stolen car.

Officers quickly surrounded the neighborhood and found the four suspects in the area. They also found a shotgun in the stolen car.

The suspects are one 18-year-old boy, two 17-year-old boys and a 15-year-old girl.

Police have not released the 18-year-old's name.

No one was injured.
