A Prescott Valley couple has been accused of producing and passing fake twenty dollar bills at area businesses including restaurants, grocery stores and Wal-Marts.
Officers have been investigating Edwin Manual Jaramillo, 47, and his fiance Erica Shay Pimental, 29, since October. His vehicle had been tied to the scene of several of the crimes.
Police pulled over Pimental in Jaramillo's car on Monday night and found she was driving on a suspended driver's license. The vehicle was towed and evidence of the counterfeiting was found in the vehicle, according to Prescott Police. Pimental was also allegedly in possession of fake $20 bills.
A search warrant was served on the home where they both live and more evidence relating to the counterfeiting scheme was located, including counterfeiting equipment.
Police say Jaramillo was also in possession of heroin and drug paraphernalia. He was booked into jail for fraud, money laundering, forgery, and drug-related charges. Pimental was booked on charges of fraud, money laundering, forgery, and operating a motor vehicle on a suspended license.
The couple passed their bills in several different cities including Cottonwood, Camp Verde, Phoenix, and surrounding cities, police say. More charges are possible.
