NEWARK, Del. -

Family and friends of 22-year-old Peter Disabatino say they are devastated after the University of Delaware student was found shot to death right outside his apartment.

Police in New Castle County are now investigating the shooting, which happened in the area of the 200 block of Thorn Lane around 9:30 p.m. Monday night.

Police say the victim was taken to Christiana Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

The victim was later identified by police as Disabatino. Investigators say he lived in the area at the Studio Green West Apartments.

A resident of the apartment complex tells FOX 29's Claudia Gomez the apartments are normally very safe.

After the shooting, a neighbor says he tried to save Disabatino's life by performing CPR.

"We see him laying on the ground, his friends are just surrounding him. So, me and my brother, our first instinct to do was apply first aid," 17-year-old Dylan Brady told FOX 29.

The reason for the shooting is not yet clear. Witnesses say they heard Disabatino arguing with someone in the parking lot moments before the shooting.

Police say they are searching for two suspects, both described as black men. Police say one was seen wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt and the other was seen in a black hooded sweatshirt.

If you have any information, you're asked to call the New Castle County Police Department at 302-395-8110.

You can also call Crime Stoppers at 800-TIP-3333.
