We understand police officers put their lives on the line every day, but we don't think about security guards in the same way.
Members of Arizona Private Security Professionals Association and their supporters gathered at the Christown Lanes on Saturday to raise money for a memorial fund and awareness about the profession.
Among those attending, a woman whose father was killed in an armored car robbery 18 years ago.
"So often we don't tell people at the time that they're alive about how much they mean to us. It's only after they're dead that we pay our respects," said Lisa Magoch. "That's why I want security guards to be known for what they're doing now rather than being honored just because they died."
John Magoch's death received national attention, but other guards killed on the job have failed to get the same recognition.
