Man convicted in murder and rape of Tucson woman

TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) - A Tucson man has been convicted of first-degree murder and two counts of sexual assault in a 2010 attack on a woman at a city park.

Pima County prosecutors say 29-year-old Frank Romero was found guilty Friday.

The Arizona Daily Star (http://bitly.com/XqkDph) says Romero faces life in prison with or without the possibility of parole when he's sentenced Jan. 7.

Authorities say Sandra Stevens' nude body was found in Freedom Park on June 10, 2010.

Responding police officers reported seeing Romero 180 yards away from Stevens' body, washing his hands in a water fountain.

Tests showed Stevens' blood was on Romero's shoes and his DNA was found inside her body.

An autopsy showed the 46-year-old Stevens died after being beaten and asphyxiated and had injuries consistent with sodomy and rape.
