Giant backhoes and bulldozers were hard at work along the beaches in Margate scooping up tons of sand blown in by Hurricane Sandy and re-depositing it where it can do the most good as the latest storm heads this way.
"We're taking the sand from here and bringing it down the beach there to any open spots that are gonna get washed away," said contractor Parker Miller.
A few blocks away in Longport, work crews were also scrambling to get mounds of sand out of local streets and back onto the beach before the approaching Nor'easter delivers another shore blast.
"Trying to protect them from the impending storm, yes, best as you can," Miller added.
A mile away in Ventnor, workers began hauling away a huge dumpster full of debris from Teresa Moore Griffin's hurricane damaged home on Richards Avenue. Still feeling the effects of Sandy, now she's bracing for a possible hit from a Nor'easter working its way towards the shore.
"Fingers, eyes, toes, ears, all crossed hoping for the best," she said. "We're prepared, you know sand bags at the back door which is where the water came in before. We'll just do our best," Griffin explained.
A few miles away in Margate, city crews were vacuuming Hurricane Sandy's big sand deposits from storm drains in anticipation of more flooding from the approaching storm.
"Get it out of the drains so the water can drain out and get into the ocean," Miller said.
And in Ocean City, where flood waters caused widespread damage, work crews and residents were fighting their way out from under Sandy's crushing blow. With a new storm moving this way, everyone at the shore was just hoping for the best.
"The way they're building these berms really helps out, that definitely is going to slow it down," said contractor Nick Lobascio.
